2014 Packathon – volunteer opportunity

The Packathon has a proud history in Seattle. Since 2003, a dedicated voluntary team of medical staff from 10 Washington State hospitals have diligently collected the supplies to ship to Uganda. Many of these supplies (such as unused syringes, cotton swabs and medical tape) are laid out during medical procedures but completely unused and unopened, and would usually be thrown away in the USA, but can be put to life saving use at Kiwoko Hospital in the Nakaseke District of Uganda.
Each year at the Packathon, enthusiastic volunteers get their hands dirty counting and sorting thousands of syringes, packing hundreds of rubber gloves and sorting suction tubes from oxygen tubes. TIF then sends a 20 to 40 foot container to Kiwoko Hospital, full of supplies and equipment that would otherwise have been thrown away.
For the final Packathon, TIF is seeking volunteers who can offer their time on Tuesday October 7 (9:00am-4:00pm) and/or Wednesday October 8 (9:00am-2:30pm) at The Courtyard Hall (720 238th St SE Bothell, WA 98021) to help out. Every last syringe you count will make a life changing impact in the lives of the people being treated at Kiwoko Hospital.
