Updated with new information about the school resource officer position.
We reported last week that Lynnwood High School was at risk of losing its on-campus police officer due to funding concerns. Those concerns have been alleviated.
The school board has decided to continue funding the position for at least the next school year.
Snohomish County Sheriff’s Deputy Rebecca Lewis worked at the school this past year, but we’ve learned that she received a promotion and will be moving on. There will be an interview process for hiring another deputy to work at the school.
Staff and students liked having Deputy Lewis on their campus.
“She is so amazing. We are so lucky,” English teacher Stacy Wright told us. “The kids adore her. She even trains kids after school who would like to get in shape.”
Lewis also taught a Law and Justice class and volunteered with the girls basketball team. She was named Patrol Deputy of the Year in 2010.
